Barra del Colorado

Created the 26 of July of 1985, it is wild area is located in the North Caribbean, in the forntera with Republic of Nicaragua. The area surrounding Barra del Colorado is quite swampy making walking here extremely difficult. The best way to see town and the refuge itself is by boat. There is also a small ranger station of the park near town. However, there are no facilities here.

From Barra del Colorado, you can also head on into Nicaragua by boat. If you plan on taking a boat ride near the Nicaraguan border, be sure to carry your passport, as you are likely to be stopped and checked by police from time to time.
